Welcome to my new website!

My website has now migrated to my new web host, but the transition has presented a steep learning curve along with myriad problems to solve. The basic features are here, but I was unable to recreate the previous episodes of Jane's Musical Takeaway in this new format. This may be the logical time to make the jump to vlogs on YouTube (which has always been the plan for the JMT), but it's also the start of a new teaching term and I still have some technological challenges with video formatting and filming for YouTube.

I hope you'll be patient with me; please know that the JMT is only on hiatus - I promise it's coming back. In the meantime, I've decided this year's motto must certainly be 'Change is good'. I'll try to keep you all updated as often as possible. In the meantime, please sign up for my new mailing list! (You can find the link at the bottom of the home page.)

See you soon, and happy new year!

Dear Ms. Ellen, I am the choral director at Vista Middle School in Las Cruces, NM. I am reaching out to you to ask your permission to use one of your pieces as part of my virtual learning and performance with my middle school choirs. My Beginning Choir had prepared your piece, "The Water is Wide" as one of their selections for our district's Music Performance Assessment. Unfortunately my students were never able to compete due to our state's school closures in response to the Coronavirus. As I began speaking to my students about finding virtual ways to make music together many asked to continue working on and performing your piece, as they enjoyed singing it so much and felt the longing and distance captured in the piece echoes the feeling many of us have in this time of quarantine and social distancing. I am asking your permission to post practice tracks on my Vista Choir YouTube channel for my students as well as post their individual recordings edited together as a performance also on my YouTube channel and on my school's Facebook page. I understand the importance of having your permission to take such actions with your creation and also feel like this is a perfect opportunity to teach my students about copyright and the necessity to give credit to and honor those whose work you relate to and admire. I appreciate your time and attention to this matter and hope you and yours are safe and well! Irene Gehre Choral Director, Vista MS, Las Cruces, NM igehre@lcps.net
